Alzheimer's takes the mind of a Vinton coach
“Once proud and full of passion, he fought the cause of man.
Many people loved his courage; many followed his commands.
“He changed the old into the new and the course of things to come.
“And then one day we noticed he was gone.”
-- From “Closest Chronicles,” by Kansas (1977)
Here Dean gives me this big send up on being the sports writer for Vinton Today and suddenly I vanish.
VINTON-SHELLSBURG GRADUATE AMY MEYER ON MISSIONARY PROJECT FOR SUMMER

We just had to ask... Vinton-Shellsburg School Board member Angela Hazen
Angela Hazen of rural Vinton is one of the new members on the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board. Like other School Board members, she has answered our questions, serious and not-so-serious, as part of our School Board Recognition Week tribute to those who serve on the V-S School Board.
Q. Is there anything that your family (spouse, children or parents) asks you not to cook, ever again?
A.
Local Resident Makes Trip and Answers,

We just had to ask... V-S School Board member Sue Gates
Sue Gates once sat on a roof to read a book, and is married to a gardener who pleads with her not to cook vegetables. She's also one of the newest members of the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board. Here are her answers to the questions asked by Vinton Today as we commemmorate School Board Appreciation Week.
Q. Is there anything that your husband, Dave, asks you not to cook, ever again?
A.
We just had to ask.... V-S School Board member Megan Rickels
Megan Rickels has saved a statue of the Virgin Mary from a defiling, X-rayed an arm and a hand that were not attached to each other, and has been a member of a book club that has met monthly for eight years. She also finds time in her busy schedule as a mom with children ranging in grade level from Kindergarten to college freshman to serve on the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board, which (she may argue) is a mitigating factor in her propensity for attracting traffic citations.
We just had to ask.. V-S School Board member Pat Lyons
In our series of interviews with Vinton-Shellsburg School Board members n honor of School Board Appreciation Week, we now ask Pat Lyons for his insights.
Our questions and Pat's answers are here:

We just had to ask... Vinton-Shellsburg School Board member Todd Wiley
During School Board Member Appreciation Week, we at Vinton Today (inspired by an idea from Karrie Bartling of the VS Administrative Office) decided to ask the school board members some silly questions (along with at least one serious question).
Here are the questions to and answers from School Board Member Todd Wiley:
Q. Is there anything that your spouse asks you not to cook, ever again?
A Nothing from my spouse.
